DELUXE SUGAR COOKIES

1 & 1/2 CUPS POWDERED SUGAR
1 CUP SOFTENED BUTTER
1 TSP VANILLA
1/2 TSP ALMOND EXTRACT
1 EGG
2 & 1/2 CUPS ALL PURPOSE FLOUR
1 TSP BAKING SODA
1 TSP CREAM OF TARTAR
GRANULATED SUGAR OR COLORED SUGAR FOR DECORATING

BEAT POWDERED SUGAR, BUTTER, VANILLA, ALMOND EXTRACT, AND EGG UNTIL CREAMY. ADD THE FLOUR, CREAM OF TARTAR AND BAKING SODA. MIX TOGETHER WELL AND CHILL FOR 2 HOURS. HEAT THE OVEN TO 350. ROLL OUT HALF THE DOUGH ON A LIGHTLY FLOURED BOARD TO 1/4 INCH THICKNESS. CUT INTO DESIRED SHAPES, PLACE ON THE COOKIE SHEET, SPRINKLE WITH GRANULATED SUGAR. BAKE FOR 7-8 MINUTES OR UNTIL THE EDGES ARE LIGHTLY BROWNED. REMOVE FROM THE SHEET AND COOL ON A WIRE RACK.
